Between the three or four social media sites I’ve been using to spread the news of this awful script, I’ve noticed a number of people have outdated our incorrect information concerning the project. First of all, this script was canned. Even though Michael Bay is pretty obviously being dishonest about when the script was canned, it was indeed scrapped and hopefully they will not attempt to reuse anything from this version. Considering both that it has leaked and the level of outrage it has generated, it think it’s safe to say no studio on the planet would allow any part of it to be produced. So don’t worry about spoilers, this script is an abortion in so many senses of the word.
However, while the script is dead, the project is anything but. The release date has been pushed to 2014, is still very much alive and well, and Michael Bay is still very much in charge of it. So what do we do?
We ride this jerk’s back. Fan the flames of outrage about this project. Support TMNT projects that respect the franchise. This DVD set would not only look great on your shelf, but good sales will remind the suits that there are fans of the Turtles willing to spend money if what we love is handled well. The new TMNT TV series is taking a few liberties, but is being incredibly respectful to the franchise we know and love. They’ve got one of the best TMNT action figure lines I’ve seen in ages behind it, too. Heck, even roll on over to your local comic book store and pick up some TMNT comics. And once you’ve done that, let loose your hatred of this script toward the powers that be. Make sure the people funding this movie know it will flop if Michael Bay handles this film the way he intended before he fumbled. I’m a Ninja Turtles fan, and I think these characters deserve a kickass film to celebrate their 25th year inspiring and entertaining us, not some hacked together braindead noise pollution popcorn flick. Let’s make sure that happens.
