Christmas is coming up, so you assholes better remember to get a gift for Splinter.
Let’s just get him a framed pizza like we did last year.
But first, we should wait until the 24th of December, go to the mall just an hour or two before it closes, and then waste at least a good chunk of that time singing and dancing.
In 2009, the Oklahoma state legislature approved a 10 Commandments monument on state capitol grounds. So this week, the Satanic Temple of New York applied to build a $20,000 monument to do the same. They say the monument will be “tasteful”, and if there’s a Christian monument at the state capitol, other religions should also be represented.
Here’s a fun exercise: swap out the term “political correctness” for “empathy.”
“Empathy is a form of censorship.”
“Empathy is ruining this country.”
"I don’t care about being empathetic.”
Reeeeeeally puts a different spin on things.
Can I rant? I’m gonna rant. Sorry. Feel free to skip this if you’re not a comic book fan.
I’m really getting annoyed by how eager people are to dump on this new Spider-man series. If you want to pick on Amazing Spider-man, there’s a truckload of legitimate flaws you can talk about, like how the film’s climactic scene completely forgets that Spider-man has the ability to stick to walls and therefore doesn’t need anyone to catch him when he falls off a skyscraper. But stuff like this? It’s just dumb whining trying to build negative buzz for a movie for no good reason. Let me break it down point by point.
4. Rhino is a tank on legs. Always has been, in one way or another. He’s also always been a bank robber, so having him rob an armored truck is thematically fitting and almost unavoidable. You could stick to having him just rob bank vaults, but Doc Ock did that in SM2, so there’s no winning here. It’s like complaining about a Bond villain having a gun. Pointless.
3. First of all, that scene in the new trailer is in a clock tower, not a warehouse. It’s not abandoned or run down, it’s operational and has a single hole in a window likely caused by Spidey or the Green Goblin earlier in the scene. So all those sets really have in common is being empty and having windows. Not to mention that all three of Raimi’s movies had climactic battles that took place on such sets, while ASM moved things to a skyscraper, so Webb actually wins some points for originality there.
2. In the new trailer Spidey catches a car with his bare hands, and in SM2 he made a net out of webbing, but since the cars both police cars and are flying at civilians at similar angles, I’ll gladly admit this one isn’t completely off-base. Still, it’s super-powered people battling in the streets of New York. Cars are going to get tossed. Especially considering what a huge priority it is to Peter that there are no civilian casualties when he fights villains. It’s not terribly original but I wouldn’t exactly call it unforgivable.
1. Peter Parker is a young man trying to balance the life of a college student while also being a superhero. He’s going to be late for shit. It’s always been in the comics, and if anything the trailer went a really different route by having Gwen be understanding about it, while Raimi made it a huge strain on Peter’s relationship with MJ. Am I the only one seeing the extreme amount of effort going into trying to portray Peter as accurately as Raimi’s films did while trying to retread as little as possible?
In summary, it’s a freaking remake. Similarities are going to happen. I know the Raimi movies are still pretty recent and it sucks that it had to reboot, (and believe me, it had to) but either admit you don’t want any new Spider-man films at all or find something reasonable to complain about. Enough with this eye-rolling “Oh look he’s swinging from buildings AGAIN” bull. Stop pretending to be upset that this film is doing things wrong when all you’re really upset about is that it’s not a fourth Raimi film.
Can you survive a half hour special of nothing but the Ninja Turtles singing?
I haven’t even clicked play but I have to say, holy shit that thumbnail. Finally someone drew the way that version of the turtle costumes looks in my mind. Terrifying.
Felt like something different this weekend, so instead of drawing a comic, I made some fan art. This is Jinx, from League of Legends!
For the working crowd. This is what I did with my Saturday.

This brightened my day.
-eye roll- Seeing people ‘turn their back’ on feminism because they’ve JUST discovered that feminists (much like every other human being, movement, group, etc) can be very extreme and contradicting is fucking hilarious. Like, for real? You said you were…
There’s a ton wrong with mainstream feminism, but that is no reason to turn our backs on it. The people who are frustrated with feminism are in fact so important and needed because it’s their voices that keep us all on track. We need people to say things like “Hey now this is really a non-issue.” or “Let’s not forget about trans women and POC” because otherwise one of the most positive movements in recent history will become completely lost to the types of people who feel that snapping a photo of a rude man’s crotch and posting it on the Internet amount to making the world a better place. If you believe women deserve the same rights as men, you’re a feminist. End of story. People with their priorities out of whack don’t get to redefine that word.
